In a report that is sure to draw the ire of residents, the League of California Cities issues a report recently listing the total compensation packages of City Managers across the state. Palmdale City Manager Steve Williams ranked 3rd out of 400 (not sure if that is a good or bad thing) with an annual compensation for 2009 of $367,000. Lancaster City Manager Mark Bozigian, by contrast, earned just over $274,000 which put him pretty well in line with the majority of City Manager's surveyed.
Williams compensation, which included $93,000 in unused leave that was cashed out, includes a base salary of $265,000 per year. Mayor Ledford called the survey "superficial" and felt his base pay should have been what was used to judge him verse his peers, and not the inflated numbers including his unused leave.
The survey comes on the heels of reports coming out of the city of Bell over a city manager who was paid over $800,000 per year before being let go in July amid the growing controversy.
