Mold Cleaners May Now Face New Registration - FIFRA

Have you ever heard the statement from your mold remediation company that they have a product that can kill mold? Have you ever really looked at the MSDS; Materials Safety Data Sheet of the products to determine what type of chemicals you are adding to your home?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may be raising the bar one more time on the products sold as mold killers and cleaners. The new regulation under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide act, known as FIFRA, define pesticide as"any substance or mixture of substances intended for repelling, destroying or mitigating any pest."

The EPA document "Compliance information for Producers of Unregistered Cleaning Products," the agency said"EPA has become aware of certain cleaning products for which claims are made that their use will prevent pest infestation."

New Restrictions
The EPA is pushing approval of new labels to reduce any possible poisonings. The EPA will apply these changes to products with a magensium phosphate and aluminum base.
